How Much Does a UX Audit Cost in 2026? (Real Numbers)
UX audit pricing in 2026 spans an absurd range: $500 on a freelance marketplace to $50,000 from a big consultancy. Here is what actually drives the price, and what each tier really buys you.
The three price tiers
- $500–2,000, freelancer. Quality varies wildly with the individual. You may get brilliance; you may get a Nielsen heuristics template with your screenshots pasted in. No process guarantees, usually no readout call.
- $10,000–25,000, traditional agency. A 4–8 week engagement with workshops and a polished deck. The dirty secret: much of the analysis is done by juniors, then presented by the senior who sold it. You are paying for overhead, project management, and the brand.
- $2,500–5,000, AI-native studio. The newest tier, and the one we operate in. A senior designer does all the judgment work while AI tooling handles synthesis and pattern-matching across screens. Senior-level findings, delivered in days.
What actually drives cost
Four factors: scope (one journey vs the whole product), evidence depth (expert review vs moderated user testing), the seniority of who actually does the work, and how actionable the output is. A ranked roadmap costs more to produce than a list of observations, and is worth ten times as much.
Questions that expose a weak audit before you pay
- "Who, by name, will do the analysis?" If the answer is vague, juniors will.
- "Show me a sanitized example report." Templates reveal themselves instantly.
- "How do you prioritize findings?" If there is no impact-versus-effort logic, you will get 60 undifferentiated complaints.
- "What happens after the readout?" The audit is worthless if your team cannot act on it Monday morning.
When an audit is the wrong purchase
If you already know your onboarding is broken and why, skip the audit and fix it. Audits pay for themselves when symptoms are clear (drop-off, churn, support load) but causes are contested inside the team. The audit ends the argument with evidence.
