10 Landing Page UX Mistakes That Quietly Kill SaaS Conversion
We record UX teardowns of SaaS landing pages every week. The same ten mistakes appear over and over, not exotic failures, just quiet leaks that compound into a conversion rate half of what it should be.
1. The 5-second test fails
A stranger should answer "what is this and who is it for?" in five seconds. Clever headlines lose to clear ones, every time it is measured.
2. Two CTAs fighting
"Book a demo" and "Start free trial" side by side with equal weight splits intent and halves both. Pick a primary; demote the other visually and literally.
3. Features listed, outcomes missing
Buyers do not want your feature grid; they want to know what changes for them by Friday. Lead every section with the outcome, support with the feature.
4. Social proof below the fold, or fake
Logos, numbers, and quotes belong near the first CTA, where doubt happens. And one specific, attributed quote beats six anonymous superlatives.
5. Screenshots that hide the product
If your product is the pitch, show it, real UI, readable, doing the core job. Abstract 3D illustrations tell visitors you are hiding something.
6. The pricing page cliff
Hiding pricing entirely pushes self-serve buyers away silently. If you cannot publish numbers, publish the model ("per seat, from $X, no setup fees") and who each tier is for.
7. Mobile as an afterthought
Half your ad traffic is mobile. Test the actual page on an actual phone: heading wraps, tap targets, form fields, load time on cellular. This is where ad budgets go to die.
8. Forms that ask too early, too much
Every extra field is a tax. Email and URL is enough to start almost any B2B conversation, enrich the rest later.
9. No answer to "what happens next?"
Every CTA should set the expectation: "Book a call, 30 minutes, no pitch." Uncertainty, not commitment, is what stops the click.
10. Nothing for the not-ready-yet majority
Most visitors will not book today. Give the 95% a low-commitment next step, a free teardown, a useful guide, or you paid for traffic you get exactly one shot at.
